Lectionary

The Episcopal Church follows the Revised Common Lectionary. That means that on any given Sunday, Christ Church will be reading the same Scripture readings as all other denominations and congregations who follow this lectionary!

Daily Office

The Book of Common Prayer provides forms for daily prayer: Daily Morning Prayer, Daily Evening Prayer, Noonday Prayer, An Order of Worship for the Evening, and Compline. Praying any of these offices daily is a wonderful way to draw closer to God, while reading through Scripture in a disciplined way.

Some of you have used the Daily Offices in our Prayer Book for years, and have learned how to pray with the Prayer Book in one hand and the Bible in the other. But for those who might get frustrated with this back-and-forth juggling, there are digital tools to make praying the Daily Offices simple and easy, without having to juggle your Prayer Book and Bible. These digital tools can be modified to fit your desired time limits. If you can only pray for 5 minutes a day, you can do that; if you have more time to pray and read Scriptures, you can do that. The rule is: Pray as you can, not as you can't. Many people neglect daily prayer because they think it is complicated or that it takes too long. Make it easy on yourself: If you only have 5 minutes to pray, wonderful! Pray for 5 minutes. If you can only find time to pray in the morning, fine! If you can only find time to pray at night, wonderful!

The following list provides some simplified ways of praying the Daily Offices online or from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. You can bookmark the web site and pray from that site each day; some of these sources (for example, Mission St. Clare) have apps which you can download to your smartphone, computer, or tablet (just search the App Store for your device). Browse these different sources and choose the one that will best help you make a habit of daily prayer.

The Holy Eucharist Illuminated

"The Holy Eucharist Illuminated" is a new resource to help us better understand the Eucharist! Kyle Oliver has produced "flash cards" with pictures of the various parts of the Eucharist on one side, and a brief explanation on the other. We will be posting them on this page from time to time. I find them helpful in helping us appreciate the many components of our liturgy. Example card here on Entrance Song
